Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp, Says He Will Reveal Reasons ‘In Time’

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team camp and said he will explain the reasons for his departure “in time”, adding another twist to the controversy surrounding his involvement with the squad.
The decision came after Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus denied there had been any dispute with the captain. Jesus had dismissed reports that Ronaldo refused to train and said the forward’s absence from training was linked to individual mobility and strengthening exercises.
Ronaldo was selected in Jesus’ 25-man squad for the international break and started Portugal’s opening Nations League match against Wales. However, the 41-year-old did not play in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in Oslo on Sunday.
The decision not to use Ronaldo attracted attention after the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward went directly to the dressing room instead of joining his teammates in acknowledging Portugal’s travelling supporters. Reports subsequently suggested that he was unhappy with the decision.
Jesus said Ronaldo had been informed before the Norway match that he would not start but could be introduced later. The coach eventually chose not to bring him on, saying there was nothing unusual about the decision.
Ronaldo later announced his departure from the camp in an Instagram statement following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation. He said he would eventually tell Portuguese supporters the reasons behind his decision and wished his teammates well for their upcoming matches.
The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed that Ronaldo had left the squad, saying preparations would continue with the remaining 24 players. The federation added that the delegation remained focused on the national team’s upcoming fixtures and its objectives.
Ronaldo had previously said he considered retiring from international football after the World Cup but decided to continue while pursuing the milestone of 1,000 career goals. His unexpected departure now leaves questions about his immediate future with Portugal as the team continues its Nations League campaign.
