Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has urged President Bola Tinubu to be cautious about his political relationship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the country heads towards the 2027 general election.
Oseni made the comment while reacting to Wike’s warning that he could become a major target of opposition politicians if Tinubu fails to secure a second term in office.
Wike had named former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party figure Peter Obi among those who could target him if the political balance changes after the 2027 election. He made the remarks during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday.
The FCT minister also defended his continued support for Tinubu’s re-election despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike has maintained his backing for the president since the 2023 election, even as he remains outside Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting during The Morning Show on Thursday, Oseni questioned Wike’s concern about potentially being “witch-hunted” by Atiku or Obi should Tinubu lose the 2027 election.
The broadcaster’s comments add to the growing debate over Wike’s political position and his relationship with Tinubu. His decision to support a president from another political party has remained a major talking point within Nigeria’s opposition politics.
Wike’s comments also highlight the political stakes surrounding the 2027 election, particularly for figures who have aligned themselves with Tinubu ahead of the contest. As political alliances continue to shift, the minister’s future relationship with both the PDP and the president is likely to attract further scrutiny.
