Mr Macaroni Breaks Down in Tears as Nigerians Recall His Acts of Kindness

Nigerian comedian and content creator Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed that he was moved to tears after Nigerians, including celebrities, shared stories of how he had supported them at different points in their lives.

The entertainer said he had always believed that the resources God gave him were meant to be shared with others. However, after years of giving and rarely asking for help, he found himself struggling financially and needing support from people around him.

Mr Macaroni admitted that he had spent too much time focusing on what he had lost rather than appreciating the fact that he survived one of the most difficult periods of his life. He said many people assumed he had enough because he was always giving.

Veteran actor Peter Fatomilola recalled how Mr Macaroni gave him ₦200,000 for fuel after they worked together on a movie set in Fiditi, Oyo State. Fatomilola said he had received ₦50,000 from the production for two scenes but was surprised when Mr Macaroni later paid him ₦1 million for another role in a production in Lekki, Lagos, alongside Pete Edochie.

Nollywood producer Kunle Afolayan also praised Mr Macaroni, recalling that he donated a table tennis table to Kap Village and bought him several perfumes. Comedian TheCute Abiola, meanwhile, thanked him for supporting him during a period when he was detained in a Nigerian Navy cell and sending money to his family for their upkeep.

A graduate also shared how Mr Macaroni helped her with her final-year project by granting her an interview, which she said contributed to her earning an A. Activist Rinu Oduola recalled that he sent money to support various needs during the #EndSARS protests and the difficult period that followed in 2020 and 2021.

Mr Macaroni was among the entertainers who participated in the #EndSARS protests and spoke publicly about police brutality and citizens’ rights. He was arrested in February 2021 during a protest against the reopening of the Lekki tollgate and was later granted bail.

The comedian also acknowledged the people who supported him during his financial struggles, including music executive Don Jazzy, footballer Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji. Their support came during a period he described as one of the hardest of his life.
