Funke Akindele’s Absence From Kamo’s ‘Star Lomo’ Premiere Sparks Online Debate

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has come under scrutiny on social media after she was absent from the Lagos premiere of her protégé Kamo State’s debut cinema film, Star Lomo.

Kamo State, whose real name is Akinyoola Ayoola, has maintained a close public relationship with Akindele in recent years, with the actress supporting his career and featuring him in several of her projects.

Their association became particularly visible during the promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024. Kamo also appeared in Akindele’s Aiyetoro Town Season 2 and Behind The Scenes, while the actress has frequently promoted his work and shared moments involving him and his family.

However, their public appearances together have reportedly become less frequent in recent months. That, combined with Akindele’s absence from the Star Lomo premiere, has prompted some social media users to question whether there has been a change in their relationship.

The speculation intensified after it emerged that Akindele was in Ghana, where she was reportedly on a staycation with singer Waje, who is part of the cast of her upcoming movie, The Four. Some users argued that her absence should not automatically be interpreted as a disagreement with Kamo.

Others pointed to the actress’s previous support for the skit maker, including her involvement in his projects, attendance at his wedding and reported support for his child’s naming ceremony.

One social media user questioned why Akindele was absent despite Kamo’s previous support for her projects, while another dismissed the speculation, arguing that Kamo had not publicly complained about her absence and that Akindele had already done significant work to support his career.

Other users, however, interpreted the absence differently, suggesting that the reduced public interaction between the two could indicate that they are no longer as close as they once appeared.

The online debate has nevertheless not established that Akindele and Kamo State have fallen out. Neither has publicly confirmed a disagreement, leaving the speculation largely based on their recent public appearances and social media activity.
