Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting viable business investments across Nigeria, saying investors can count on the government’s backing to grow their businesses and boost the economy.

Speaking on Monday at the Delta Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, Shettima described the increasing number of investment summits across states as a positive sign of healthy competition. He said the trend reflects a growing determination by state governments to attract investors and drive economic development.

The summit was organised as a platform to strengthen investor confidence, promote strategic partnerships, and attract both local and foreign direct investment into Delta State and Nigeria’s wider economy.

Shettima noted that recent fiscal reforms have increased resources available to state governments, giving them a stronger financial base to pursue development projects and create an enabling environment for businesses. He stressed that the Federal Government remains ready to provide every necessary support for investments that can deliver meaningful economic value.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori used the occasion to announce a major incentive package aimed at reducing investment risks in Delta State. He revealed that the state government had approved $100 million, estimated at about ₦133.8 billion, as viability gap funding to encourage new investments.

“As I conclude my address, I am pleased to announce that the government has set aside 100 million dollars, approximately 133,800,000,000, as viability gap funding to de-risk new investments in the state,” the governor said.

Oborevwori also disclosed that the state has designated more than 12,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development. He said investors can explore opportunities across the cassava, oil palm, rice, potato and other cash crop value chains, while Delta’s coastline stretching between one and three kilometres also offers significant potential for the development of a vibrant marine economy.
