Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised for the tension that followed remarks he made during a campaign visit to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III.

Fadahunsi said his visit to the monarch was intended to seek justice and express his grief over the killing of some members of his political party. He said he was deeply affected by the deaths and spoke from a place of pain following the Osun State governorship election.

The senator maintained that he never called for violence or chaos, arguing that his emotional appeal was later portrayed by critics as an incitement to violence. He described that interpretation as unfair, saying his comments were made during a difficult period.

Fadahunsi also praised the Owa of Ijesaland for the way he handled the controversy. He said the monarch demonstrated wisdom and restraint despite allegations that his remarks had been disrespectful to the traditional institution.

According to the senator, the Owa’s calm response helped prevent the disagreement from escalating. He described the monarch as a father to all residents, regardless of their political affiliations, and urged political leaders to place the interests of the people above personal emotions and partisan differences.

“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” Fadahunsi said.

The senator called on his supporters and other residents of Osun State to embrace peace and contribute to healing after the election. He also urged citizens to respect traditional institutions and recognise their role in maintaining peace and unity in Ijesaland.

Fadahunsi, however, stressed that his demand for justice over the deaths of his party members had not changed. He called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the killings thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice through lawful and peaceful means.
