Osun APC Fires Back at Adeleke, Says Tinubu and Oyetola Not Responsible for His Political Troubles

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over comments linking President Bola Tinubu and former governor Adegboyega Oyetola to his political challenges ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, urged Adeleke to stop blaming the President and Oyetola for what it described as his “political woes,” insisting that the governor should instead focus on defending his administration before the electorate.

The APC’s reaction followed remarks made by Adeleke during a campaign rally in Osogbo on Monday, where the governor appealed to President Tinubu to ensure a free and credible election. Adeleke also questioned why his administration was allegedly facing intimidation despite publicly endorsing Tinubu as the Accord Party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Responding to the governor’s claims, the APC dismissed the allegations as baseless, arguing that they were designed to justify what it described as Adeleke’s anticipated defeat at the polls.

According to Olabisi, the governor should explain allegations surrounding political violence in the state rather than accusing others of political persecution. He alleged that Adeleke’s administration had become a haven for political thugs and questioned what he described as the government’s handling of security issues.

The APC spokesperson also criticised Adeleke’s claims that the Nigeria Police had been compromised, despite describing himself as the state’s Chief Security Officer. He argued that the governor should take responsibility for maintaining peace and security instead of shifting blame.

Olabisi further stated that Adeleke’s endorsement of President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election was a voluntary political decision and should not be used as grounds for demanding special treatment or questioning the credibility of the forthcoming governorship poll.

The party maintained that if the governor believes his administration has performed well, the August 15 election will provide voters with the opportunity to deliver their verdict through the ballot box.

The exchange marks another escalation in the political rivalry between the ruling PDP in Osun and the APC as campaigning intensifies ahead of the governorship election.
