Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has donated ₦20,000 each to 1,490 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state, bringing the total value of the intervention to ₦29.8 million.
The money is intended to help the corps members cover transportation and other immediate expenses as they begin their primary assignments across Kogi State.
Ododo announced the support during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba. He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe.
The governor said his administration remained committed to creating an environment where young people could develop their skills and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the state. He urged the corps members to settle responsibly into their host communities and apply the knowledge gained during the orientation course to community development.
“This administration has unwavering confidence in the capacity of young people to excel and contribute positively to the implementation of youth-focused development programmes,” Ododo said.
He also encouraged the corps members to become agents of positive change by sharing useful skills and supporting projects that improve the lives of people in their host communities. He further assured them that the state government would continue to support youth empowerment and safeguard their welfare during their service year.
The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, said the corps members had completed three weeks of physical, mental and moral orientation aimed at preparing them for the challenges of their service year. She thanked the governor for his continued support, including previous donations of food items and financial assistance to corps members serving in the state.
