A 40-year-old man has been rescued alive after becoming trapped inside an abandoned well while attempting to save his cow in Kano State.
The incident happened on Wednesday at Sabon Ruwa Village in Makoda Local Government Area after the man’s five-year-old cow fell into the old well.
The man reportedly entered the abandoned well in an attempt to rescue the animal but became trapped inside, prompting residents to seek help from the fire service.
The Kano State Fire Service said its Emergency Response Unit at the Danbatta Fire Station received a distress call at about 3:22 p.m. concerning the incident.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, the alarm was raised by Ibrahim Jibrin, who went to the Danbatta Fire Station to report that a man had been trapped inside the well.
Firefighters responded to the emergency and successfully brought the man out of the abandoned well alive.
The incident highlights the risks posed by unsecured and abandoned wells, particularly in communities where residents may attempt rescues without the equipment needed to safely enter confined spaces.
