Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the names, credentials and personal particulars of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates ahead of the 2027 general election, marking another major step in the country’s electoral process.
The commission announced that the candidates’ details, contained in Form EC9, are now on display at its offices across the country. The publication allows Nigerians to examine the information submitted by political parties and candidates before the election.
According to INEC, the exercise is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates the commission to publish the personal particulars, affidavits and credentials of nominated candidates within 21 days of receiving their nominations.
The electoral body stated that the documents have been displayed at its national, state and local government offices to promote openness and transparency throughout the electoral process. Members of the public are encouraged to inspect the documents and raise any legitimate concerns through the legal channels provided by the Electoral Act.
The publication comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with campaigns and public engagements expected to gather momentum in the coming months.
Saturday’s announcement also confirmed the official list of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates, providing voters with an opportunity to review the credentials of those seeking Nigeria’s highest office before the election.
