Former Imo State Deputy Governor Eze Madumere has urged young Nigerians to focus on education, skills development, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation to strengthen their role in the country’s economy.
Madumere, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Imo East, made the call while celebrating young people in Imo East, Imo State and Nigeria as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day.
The former deputy governor described youths as a major force behind social and economic progress, stressing that Imo State could not achieve meaningful development without deliberate investment in its young population.
He called on political leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to move beyond symbolic celebrations of young people and create practical opportunities for them to participate in leadership, governance and economic activities.
Madumere said his support for youth development predated his time in public office. He maintained that young people could lead, create businesses, develop new ideas and transform communities when given the right environment and opportunities.
He urged young people to remain focused on their goals while developing skills that would make them competitive in an increasingly technology-driven economy. He also encouraged them to explore entrepreneurship and innovation rather than depend solely on government or political opportunities.
According to Madumere, the future of Imo State should be deliberately built around young people who are equipped, empowered and given meaningful opportunities to contribute to governance and economic development.
He assured youths in Owerri Zone and across Imo State of his continued commitment to promoting a society where young people are regarded not merely as followers or electoral numbers, but as partners, stakeholders and future leaders.
Madumere also encouraged young Imolites to remain hopeful and confident in their abilities, saying their ideas, voices and ambitions would play an important role in shaping the future of the state and Nigeria.
