Afrobeats star Davido has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what he described as opposition to development in Osun State, days before the state’s governorship election.
The singer reacted after a large crowd gathered in Ile-Ife on Monday for the inauguration of the Lagere Flyover and the dualised Mayfair Roundabout–Palace Junction Road by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Sharing videos from the event on X, Davido praised the turnout and expressed confidence in Adeleke’s political prospects. “Jesus, see Ile-Ife crowd!! For @AAdeleke_01!!! Done deal! You can’t stop God’s project!!” he wrote.
He later turned his attention to the APC, questioning why the opposition party would allegedly resist development projects in the state. “APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? Thought y’all were progressives??” he posted.
Davido also took a swipe at people he described as influencers and supporters allegedly brought to political events, suggesting that some were being offered incentives to attend. His comments added another layer to the political debate surrounding the election.
The Lagere Flyover, located at one of Ile-Ife’s busiest junctions, was flagged off by Adeleke in May 2024. The project includes the flyover, road expansion and dualisation works along the corridor connecting Lagere to Iremo Road and the area leading to the Ooni of Ife’s Palace.
The wider project has been reported to cost about ₦14.9 billion and is aimed at easing congestion and improving movement through a major commercial and transport corridor in the ancient city.
The inauguration drew residents, political supporters and other stakeholders, with footage of the crowd spreading across social media. Davido has consistently used his platforms to support Adeleke and defend his administration.
The singer’s latest comments come just days before the August 15 Osun governorship election. Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, with APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji among those challenging him.
