The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Inspector-General of Police to investigate Abayomi Hunye over allegations that he is falsely presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
The petition was signed by APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja. The party accused Hunye of using print and social media platforms to claim a status it said he does not hold.
Olajolo described the alleged conduct as impersonation that could mislead voters, threaten electoral integrity and create tension in Ogun State. He asked the police to invite Hunye for questioning and investigate the allegations.
The APC official said Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. He said the Ogun APC Working Committee later ratified the suspension and communicated it to the national leadership.
The party also said it had already conducted its governorship primary and identified Senator Adeola Olamilekan as its candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as the deputy governorship candidate. It therefore rejected Hunye’s alleged claim to the ticket.
Olajolo called on the police to consider prosecution if investigations establish allegations of impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace or violations of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The APC further asked the police to stop Hunye from continuing to present himself as the party’s candidate. It said its national and Ogun State structures were ready to provide witness statements and other information that could assist the investigation.
The petition comes amid an ongoing dispute within the Ogun APC over the 2027 governorship race. Hunye has previously maintained that he is not fighting the party but seeking justice, adding another layer to the growing political contest ahead of the election.
