The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma urging members to focus on securing victory for the party.
Uzodimma, who chairs the campaign council, gave the charge on Monday during the council’s inaugural meeting held at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. He stressed that the assignment before members was one of service and commitment, not celebration.
The APC recently unveiled a 276-member National Campaign Council alongside 12 subcommittees to coordinate campaign activities for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the election.
Addressing members, Uzodimma said the campaign team had one clear objective—to ensure the party wins the Osun governorship poll.
“The plan is to go and support our brothers and sisters in Osun State to win the forthcoming election. This meeting is not for merrymaking. It is not for any jamboree. It is for people to come and offer service,” he said.
The Imo governor directed the chairmen of all subcommittees to convene immediately and submit their resolutions and operational proposals to the campaign council’s national secretary before Thursday. According to him, the recommendations would help the central working committee provide the support needed for an effective statewide campaign.
Uzodimma also disclosed that the finance subcommittee had been tasked with receiving voluntary donations from party members and supporters willing to contribute to the campaign effort.
Speaking after the meeting, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who serves as secretary of the campaign council, expressed confidence that the APC would win the election.
He said the party was optimistic that its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would secure victory with the support of voters across Osun State’s 30 local government areas when residents head to the polls on August 15.
The Osun governorship election is expected to be keenly contested, with political parties intensifying campaigns in the final days before the vote as they seek to win over the electorate.
