Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has continued his Abuja consultations after securing re-election, meeting Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike shortly after a private discussion with President Bola Tinubu.
A photograph of the meeting, shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed Adeleke and Wike shaking hands while holding the governor’s certificate of return. Olayinka captioned the photograph: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
The meeting with Wike came just hours after Adeleke visited President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. The governor arrived at the Villa at about 5:20 p.m., dressed in traditional attire and accompanied by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and several Osun State officials.
Among those who accompanied him were his campaign director-general and chief of staff. During his meeting with the President, Adeleke presented his certificate of return and expressed appreciation for the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing 511,067 votes. He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas in the election. His post-election visits to senior political figures in Abuja have now included both the President and the FCT Minister.
Speaking to State House correspondents after his meeting with Tinubu, Adeleke praised the President for allowing the electoral process to proceed without interference. He said the purpose of his visit was largely to thank Tinubu for respecting the democratic process.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy,” Adeleke said. He added that Tinubu’s decision to allow what he described as a free and fair election was worth acknowledging as Nigeria continues to strengthen its democratic system.
