A court in Kuwait has sentenced two Nigerian nationals to seven years in prison after finding them guilty of carrying out an armed robbery at a money exchange office in the country’s southern district.
The judgment was delivered on Monday by a court presided over by Counsellor Nasr Salem Al-Haid, following the conclusion of criminal proceedings against the two unnamed defendants.
According to court documents presented by the public prosecution, the pair were convicted of stealing cash and other valuables during a robbery at a money exchange office in Mahboula, a district in Kuwait’s Ahmadi Governorate.
Investigators said the suspects were arrested by the General Department of Criminal Investigation after an investigation into the incident, which took place in January 2025.
Authorities said surveillance footage played a key role in the investigation. A video released during the probe reportedly showed one of the suspects, dressed in a hooded sweatshirt, stepping out of a white vehicle before entering the exchange office.
The footage allegedly captured the suspect pointing a firearm at employees inside the premises while the robbery was being carried out.
Following the investigation, prosecutors charged the two men, who were later convicted and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Kuwaiti court.
The identities of the convicted Nigerians have not been made public, and Kuwaiti authorities have not released additional details regarding the amount of money stolen or whether any other suspects remain under investigation.
