Success in music has not erased one major regret for street-pop star Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable. The singer says he still hopes to return to school and complete his education after years away from the classroom.

Speaking in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, due for release on YouTube on Monday, Portable reflected on his educational journey, revealing that financial difficulties forced him to abandon his studies despite his determination to graduate.

According to the singer, he struggled to pay his tuition and even sold sachet water while trying to remain in school. He said the absence of financial support eventually made it impossible for him to continue his education.

“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.

Portable claimed he gained admission into Kwara State Polytechnic through the institution’s indigene quota and studied Business Administration before dropping out. He described leaving the programme as the biggest disappointment of his academic life.

“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, the singer said he was once regarded as the least academically gifted among his siblings but has since become the family’s breadwinner. He added that he now supports his father financially while his sisters are also working to earn a living.

“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.

Portable also encouraged young people not to abandon their dreams because of setbacks. While stressing that formal education remains important, he argued that success can come through different paths and maintained that he still intends to return to school and earn his qualification.

OtownGist could not independently verify Portable’s claim regarding his admission into Kwara State Polytechnic or his academic status at the institution.
