Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint his elder brother as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), suggesting the timing of the appointment raises questions.
Speaking in a video shared on his Facebook page, Isaac Fayose wondered why the appointment came shortly after the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, visited the former governor.
President Tinubu had on Monday announced Ayodele Fayose’s appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency, one of several appointments made into federal agencies.
Reacting to the development, Isaac argued that the appointment could have been made much earlier if it was based solely on merit.
“Just days after Mr Peter Obi visited me, they appointed my brother as a DG. Why didn’t they give him the appointment all these while?” he said.
He also questioned the nature of the appointment, noting that his brother was not offered a ministerial position or an ambassadorial role.
“They didn’t even make him a minister or ambassador. Even Reno Omokri, who was never a governor, was appointed an ambassador,” he added.
Isaac Fayose further recalled that his brother had previously expressed no interest in taking up appointments such as senator, minister or director-general after leaving office as governor.
“My brother once told me that after leaving Government House, he wouldn’t become a senator, minister, or DG.”
Despite his criticism, Isaac acknowledged that the decision ultimately rests with the former governor.
“I know he may not accept the appointment, but if he does, who am I to question him,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, Ayodele Fayose has not publicly responded to his appointment or his younger brother’s comments.
