Afrobeats superstar Davido has come under fire on social media after failing to attend the wedding of billionaire music executive and longtime associate Soso Soberekon, sparking mixed reactions among fans and critics.
Soberekon tied the knot last weekend in Warri, Delta State, in a ceremony attended by family, friends and notable personalities. However, Davido’s absence quickly became a trending topic online, with many questioning why the singer did not show up or publicly congratulate the newlyweds.
Instead of posting about the wedding, Davido shared updates from his trip to Dubai with members of his crew and also made posts relating to the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
The development drew criticism from several public figures, including comedian DeeOne, who questioned the singer’s relationship with Soberekon.
“With all the things wey Soso Soberekon don do for David, na David supposed to arrange chairs for that wedding,” DeeOne said. He also accused the singer of failing to send a representative or publicly wish the couple a happy married life.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, also expressed disappointment, saying he expected both Davido and his wife, Chioma, to attend the ceremony.
“The fact is, Soso Soberekon has done so much for Davido in the last few years,” Ossai wrote on Instagram.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism. Some fans defended the award-winning musician, suggesting he may have been out of the country or tied down with work commitments. Others argued that personal schedules should not automatically be interpreted as a sign of disrespect.
Despite the differing opinions, Davido has yet to publicly respond to the criticism or explain his absence from the high-profile wedding.
