Barcelona have taken a major step in their summer transfer plans after submitting an official bid to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, with the Germany international reportedly eager to complete a move to the Camp Nou.
The 24-year-old is said to have informed Borussia Dortmund of his intention to leave after negotiations over a new contract failed to produce an agreement. His decision has accelerated talks, with Barcelona moving quickly to secure one of their top attacking targets.
Reports from Sky Sport claim Adeyemi has already reached a verbal agreement on a long-term contract with the Spanish champions. The deal now depends on Barcelona and Dortmund agreeing on a transfer fee, with the Bundesliga club valuing the winger at around €40 million.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is believed to be a driving force behind the move. Having previously worked with Adeyemi in the German national team setup, Flick reportedly sees the pacey forward as an ideal fit for his high-pressing system. Adeyemi’s ability to operate on either wing and across the frontline would also provide added competition alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
The negotiations have reportedly been helped by renowned football agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the player. Mendes has offered Adeyemi to Barcelona on previous occasions, but the club’s financial difficulties prevented a deal from materialising. Improved financial planning has now revived hopes of completing the transfer.
Despite their pursuit of Adeyemi, Barcelona are not expected to abandon plans to sign a new striker. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the club’s interest in Julián Álvarez remains unchanged, with the Argentine still viewed as the preferred long-term option to strengthen the centre-forward position.
To ease the financial impact of Dortmund’s asking price, Barcelona are also considering player-plus-cash offers. Youngsters Roony Bardghji and Guille Fernández have reportedly been discussed as potential makeweights, although no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs.
Should the transfer go through, Adeyemi would become another key addition to Flick’s rebuilding project as Barcelona continue reshaping their squad for the new season while balancing financial sustainability.
