Political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections are beginning to gather pace across Imo State, with supporters already positioning their preferred candidates for key elective offices.
A political stakeholder in Ahiazu Mbaise, Hon. Ugochukwu Martins Azubike, has expressed confidence in the potential candidacy of Dr. Ichie Ken Agbim for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat, describing him as a leader with the experience and capacity needed to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
Speaking on Agbim’s political credentials, Azubike argued that the former lawmaker possesses the legislative experience required to make an immediate impact if elected.
“There’s no room for inexperienced lawmakers in the Green Chamber. You must swing into action immediately you arrive. Agbim gives you that speed of performance,” he said.
Azubike noted that Agbim previously represented Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, where he also served as Minority Leader. He further highlighted Agbim’s student leadership record at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, saying his leadership journey began long before he entered active politics.
According to him, Agbim held several leadership positions during his university years, including Financial Secretary of the Mass Communication Students’ Association, President of the Ekwerazu Students’ Union and Director of Socials of the University of Nigeria Students’ Union. He also described Agbim as one of the founding members of the Niger Committee of Friends (NICOF), an organisation established to promote the welfare and leadership development of students from the South-East and South-South.
Azubike also pointed to Agbim’s professional background outside politics. He said the former lawmaker is a member of professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Marketing (NIM), the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (formerly APCON), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN). He added that Agbim is the founder of Boom Productions Ltd, a media and events company that has worked with several major corporate organisations.
Reflecting on Agbim’s tenure in the Imo State House of Assembly, Azubike credited him with sponsoring legislative motions and bills focused on public welfare, while also citing constituency projects such as the establishment of a 100-seat ICT centre, rehabilitation of the Ihitte Ubi Link Bridge in Oparanadim, scholarship support for more than 150 students and improvements at the Nkwo Ogbor Market.
Concluding his remarks, Azubike maintained that residents of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency have confidence in Agbim’s leadership ability and believe he has the experience required to represent them effectively if he decides to contest the seat in the 2027 elections.
