The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a fresh warning to Nigerian travellers, urging them to strictly obey immigration regulations and avoid actions that could affect their chances of entering the US in the future.

The advisory, shared on the mission’s official X account on Tuesday, emphasized the importance of complying with visa conditions, including staying only for the approved duration and ensuring travel documents remain valid and up to date.

According to the mission, adherence to US immigration laws is not only a legal obligation but also a crucial step in preserving future opportunities for travel, education, and employment in the United States.

“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do; it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travelers,” the mission stated.

The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by US authorities to reduce visa overstays and strengthen the integrity of the country’s immigration system.

Nigerians travelling to the United States for study, work, tourism, or other legitimate purposes were advised to carefully observe the terms attached to their visas throughout their stay.

“Whether you’re studying, working, or visiting the United States, always honour the terms of your visa. Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorized. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams,” the mission added.

The embassy stressed that respecting immigration procedures benefits both individual travellers and bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States.

It noted that compliance with visa requirements helps maintain confidence in the visa process and ensures continued access for genuine travellers seeking opportunities in the US.

The mission concluded by reiterating that protecting the credibility of the visa system ultimately serves the interests of both countries and law-abiding applicants.
