Liverpool are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market, with the Premier League champions reportedly preparing an £86 million move for RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande just days after securing the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz.
The Merseyside club recently beat Newcastle United to the signature of Munoz, despite the Magpies believing they had already completed an agreement for the Osasuna star. Liverpool’s latest move now signals an aggressive push to reshape their attack ahead of the new season.
Munoz, who has signed a long-term contract at Anfield, arrived after Liverpool activated his release clause worth £34.5 million. The Spain international was also attracting strong interest from Newcastle, who had reportedly agreed a transfer package and personal terms before Liverpool stepped in.
However, the signing of Munoz is not expected to affect Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande, who remains one of the club’s priority targets this summer.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents after a sensational season with RB Leipzig. Liverpool are reportedly willing to offer £86 million for the winger, although Leipzig are believed to value him significantly higher and would prefer to keep him for at least another season.
Diomande’s rapid rise has been remarkable. Just over a year ago, he was making his first senior appearances in Spain. Since joining Leipzig from Leganes last summer, he has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting attacking players.
Known for his pace, creativity, and ability to beat defenders, the teenager has attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool’s transfer strategy appears focused on strengthening their wide attacking options as they prepare for the eventual transition from club legend Mohamed Salah, whose future remains a key discussion point despite his continued importance to the team.
New manager Andoni Iraola is said to be a strong admirer of both Munoz and Diomande. His knowledge of Spanish football reportedly played a significant role in Liverpool’s pursuit of the pair.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are believed to be frustrated by the collapse of the Munoz deal after receiving assurances that the player was interested in joining them. Reports suggest the club had already begun arranging medical examinations before Liverpool completed the move.
Munoz brings versatility to Liverpool’s frontline. Comfortable on either wing and capable of playing centrally, the 22-year-old is expected to add speed, depth, and tactical flexibility to Iraola’s squad.
Last season, the former Real Madrid youth player made 34 league appearances for Osasuna, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
With Liverpool already strengthening their squad and now targeting one of Europe’s brightest teenage talents, the club appears determined to build a new-look attack capable of competing on every front next season.
