Uba Sani has pledged that the Kaduna State Government will take full responsibility for the welfare of the family of the late Ummulkhairi Aliyu, who was brutally killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.
During a condolence visit to the bereaved family on Saturday, the governor assured them that the state would support Ummulkhairi’s husband and sponsor the education of their four children.
The late Islamic teacher was lynched on June 14 after being falsely accused of attempting to kidnap children. She was beaten by an angry mob before her body was set ablaze. Security personnel later restored calm to the community.
Describing the incident as barbaric, Governor Sani condemned the mob action and vowed that everyone involved would be brought to justice.
“I was out of Kaduna State on an official assignment when this unfortunate incident occurred, but I immediately directed senior government officials to visit the family and commiserate with them,” he said.
“I also want to assure you that the Kaduna State Government will take responsibility for the welfare of the family. We will support the husband and ensure that the four children receive quality education.”
The governor disclosed that security agencies had made significant progress in investigating the case. According to him, 41 suspects have already been charged with culpable homicide, while another 41 people have been investigated, bringing the total number of persons investigated to 82. He added that 30 suspects had also been charged with unlawful assembly.
Governor Sani said he was working closely with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service and other security agencies to ensure that every person connected to the killing faces the law.
“Everyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law. We must send a clear message that no one has the right to take the law into their hands,” he stated.
He also directed that the conduct of security personnel during the incident, particularly that of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maraban Jos, be investigated. According to the governor, any officer found to have acted negligently or compromised the investigation would also be held accountable.
The killing of Ummulkhairi Aliyu sparked nationwide outrage, with religious leaders, civil society groups and human rights advocates calling for justice and stronger action against mob violence. The Kaduna State Police Command has since intensified its investigation, leading to multiple arrests and prosecutions.
