The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally issued Certificates of Return to winners of the June 20, 2026 by-elections conducted across Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Kano states.

The presentation ceremony was conducted on behalf of INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, and led by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.

The development was confirmed in a statement posted on INEC’s official X handle on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the newly elected representatives and urged them to prioritise effective representation of their constituents.

She stressed that elected officials must focus on service delivery and accountability, noting that “the most important responsibility is to represent the people well.”

INEC also disclosed that Certificates of Return will be issued separately to winners of other elections, including the Zuru State Constituency poll in Kebbi State and the Ekiti State governorship election.

The by-elections held over the weekend saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) record a strong performance nationwide, securing key victories in Ondo, Nasarawa, Kano, and Kebbi states.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, retained the Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat in a closely watched contest.

Among the declared winners, APC’s Ikeje Asogwa emerged victorious in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election, while Rabiu Garba Aiki secured the Zuru State Constituency seat in Kebbi State.

In Kano, Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency election, further strengthening the party’s legislative numbers.

The APC also claimed victory in Ondo State, where Dayo Faduyile won the Ondo South Senatorial District seat, while Danladi Envulu-anza was declared winner of the Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election after polling 45,362 votes.

In Rivers State, the PDP’s Olaka Nwogu secured victory in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.

Separately, INEC confirmed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has been re-elected, making him the first governor in the state to win consecutive terms since 1999.

The by-elections, while largely concluded peacefully in many areas, were still marked by isolated reports of irregularities, voter intimidation, and political tension in some constituencies.
