A fire outbreak on Thursday disrupted activities at a major commercial building on Lagos Island after flames erupted inside a parking section of the Polaris Bank tower on Broad Street.

The incident occurred at about 11:33 a.m. on the third floor of the 17-storey structure, which also functions as a parking facility within the busy business district.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire involved a stationary saloon car parked on the floor of the building located at 61/65 Broad Street.

Firefighters from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations were immediately deployed to the scene after the alert was raised, and they successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to other sections of the building.

Controller General Margaret Adeseye confirmed that the situation was brought under control swiftly, adding that only the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings were damaged.

She also confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident, easing early fears among occupants and nearby businesses in the densely populated commercial area.

Eyewitness videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke rising from the building as workers, traders, and passersby gathered outside while emergency responders battled the flames.

Fire service officials said the rapid response helped prevent what could have been a far more serious escalation in one of Lagos Island’s busiest commercial hubs.

However, authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the incident inside the parking section.

The affected building is part of a high-traffic financial zone where multiple businesses operate, making fire safety compliance a critical concern for regulators.

Officials are expected to release further findings once the investigation into the cause of the fire is concluded.
