Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday as proceedings continued in his ongoing corruption trial.
The former governor arrived at the court premises under the watch of officials from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The case centres on allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and financial misconduct allegedly committed during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
Prosecutors claim that public funds were released for projects that were either not executed or were improperly managed, resulting in financial irregularities.
The allegations form part of a broader investigation into the handling of government resources during the former administration.
El-Rufai has consistently denied all accusations brought against him, insisting that he is innocent of the charges and prepared to defend himself through the judicial process.
Monday’s proceedings are expected to focus on legal arguments and motions from both the prosecution and defence teams as the case moves forward.
The high-profile trial has continued to attract significant public attention, given El-Rufai’s influence in national politics and his role as a former governor and cabinet minister.
Legal observers say the outcome of the case could have wider implications for accountability and anti-corruption efforts involving former public office holders in Nigeria.
The court is expected to determine the next phase of proceedings after hearing submissions from both parties.
