Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has advised Atletico Madrid to consider selling Julian Alvarez following reports that the Argentine forward has expressed a desire to leave the club.

Aguero made the comments during an interview with Jijantes, reacting to Alvarez’s reported decision to inform Atletico Madrid of his intention to exit Diego Simeone’s squad.

Alvarez reportedly made the announcement after Argentina’s 2–0 win over Austria at the ongoing World Cup, revealing that he had already communicated his wishes to the Spanish club’s management.

The development has sparked widespread attention, given Alvarez’s key role in Atletico’s attacking setup since joining the LaLiga side.

Responding to the situation, Aguero said the club must prioritise honesty and avoid forcing an unhappy player to remain.

“The club won’t comment on anything, and the player has no choice but to be honest,” Aguero said.

He added that both the player and club appear to be aligned on a potential transfer solution.

“He said he’s met with the club, and both parties agree that a transfer is the best option,” he noted.

Aguero further stressed that if a player is no longer comfortable—whether due to tactical issues, relationships within the squad, or coaching decisions—the most practical solution is to part ways.

“If I were the club and a player was unhappy… the best way is to find a solution and sell him,” he said.

The comments add another layer to growing speculation around Alvarez’s future, with transfer discussions expected to intensify following the World Cup.

Atletico Madrid are yet to make an official statement on the matter.
