A coalition of Imo indigenes in the diaspora has thrown its weight behind former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, urging him to emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District election in 2027.
The endorsement comes as political activities ahead of the next general election begin to gather momentum across the state, with various groups positioning themselves for key contests.
In a statement made available to journalists, the diaspora community said its decision followed extensive consultations among members living in different countries. The group said it carefully assessed potential candidates before settling on Madumere as its preferred choice for the Owerri Zone senatorial seat.
According to the group, Madumere’s years in public service, including his tenure as Deputy Governor of Imo State, have equipped him with the experience and leadership qualities needed to represent the interests of the district effectively at the National Assembly.
The group described the former deputy governor as a politician with a strong understanding of governance, noting that his record in public office demonstrates competence, integrity and a commitment to the development of the people.
It further argued that Owerri Zone requires representation built on accountability, accessibility and a clear agenda for sustainable growth, adding that Madumere possesses the qualities necessary to meet those expectations.
The diaspora body also highlighted what it described as Madumere’s grassroots appeal and broad political exposure, saying these attributes would enable him to effectively champion the interests of Imo East Senatorial District at the federal level.
Calling for unity among residents and indigenes of Owerri Zone, both within Nigeria and abroad, the group appealed to stakeholders to support Madumere’s ambition and work towards securing victory for the PDP in the senatorial contest.
The endorsement, the group said, reflects a shared belief that Madumere’s election would promote inclusive development, youth empowerment, improved infrastructure and stronger legislative representation for the zone.
The statement concluded with an expression of confidence in the former deputy governor’s prospects, declaring that he remains well-positioned to offer effective representation for the people of Imo East in the Senate.
“Together, we stand united in our resolve that come 2027, by the special grace of God, His Excellency, Prince Eze Madumere (MFR), the PDP candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, shall be elected to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the group stated.
