President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially secured the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after recording a massive victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary election.
The APC primary was conducted across all 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas in Nigeria on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with party members voting to choose the party’s presidential candidate.
Tinubu was declared winner on Sunday at the APC presidential primary collation centre located at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, former Senate President Pius Anyim, who confirmed that two aspirants contested the primary election — President Tinubu and businessman Stanley Osifo from Edo State.
Presenting the final results, Anyim disclosed that the APC had over 12.6 million registered members nationwide, while more than 11 million party members were accredited to participate in the exercise.
According to the official figures, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, while Osifo polled 16,503 votes.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the presidential primary election and returned as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general elections,” Anyim announced.
Following the declaration, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda presented Tinubu with the party’s symbolic flag and certificate of return in the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, party leaders, and supporters.
Speaking after receiving the ticket, Tinubu thanked party members for what he described as overwhelming support and confidence in his leadership ahead of the next election cycle.
“Thank you all of you. You changed the landscape, looking at the figure that you returned,” the President said during his acceptance speech.
Tinubu’s emergence as the APC flagbearer now sets the stage for what is expected to be another high-stakes presidential contest as political parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
