Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State has announced its candidates for the 10 House of Representatives seats in the state following the party’s primaries conducted across various local government areas.
The primaries, held on May 17, produced a mix of former lawmakers, legal practitioners, political figures and first-time aspirants as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Among the notable candidates is Uche Ogbuagu, a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, who emerged as the PDP candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.
Also emerging from the exercise is Chief Samuel Christian Onye, President of the Igbo Community in Gkoko, Benue State, who secured the party’s ticket for Isiala Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe Federal Constituency.
Others include Barrister Ikenna Emeruem for Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency and High Chief Joseph Chukwuma Ikunna for Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency.
The party also highlighted the emergence of three female candidates, describing it as evidence of its commitment to affirmative action and inclusive representation. The women are Hon. Iheme Ndidi Olachi Ulumma for Owerri Federal Constituency, Hon. Nwadike Peace Adamma for Nkwere/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency, and Chief Mrs. Princess Oleka-Chinedu for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency.
According to the party, the development reflects its continued implementation of the PDP’s 35 per cent affirmative action policy for women in both elective and appointive political positions.
The Imo PDP leadership, under State Chairman Austine Nwachukwu, said it remains confident in the ability of the candidates to perform strongly at the polls based on what it described as their character, experience and competence.
Other candidates unveiled by the party include Chief Owuzuruike Banabas Chijioke for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency, Hon. Arthur N.C. Ugochukwu for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala, and Barrister Amby Emeh for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency.
The party called on members and stakeholders across the state to unite behind the candidates as mobilisation efforts begin ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement announcing the candidates was signed by Lancelot Obiaku, the State Publicity Secretary of the party.
