Former Imo State Deputy Governor Eze Madumere has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Madumere secured the ticket through a consensus arrangement during the PDP senatorial primary held at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Party leaders described the process as peaceful and well-coordinated, saying it reflected growing unity within the Imo chapter of the PDP as it prepares for the next general elections.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor the exercise and reportedly commended party members for the orderly conduct of the primary.
Following his emergence, Madumere expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and supporters, describing the development as a collective victory for unity and experience.
“I assure you today that I will not disappoint you. I remain committed to quality representation that will attract development, empower our youths, support our women, and restore the voice and dignity of Owerri Zone at the national level,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of key PDP stakeholders, including the party’s National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, as well as the state leadership under Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu.
Madumere commended the party’s National Working Committee and thanked supporters across Owerri Zone for their backing, urging aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation in the interest of party unity.
The PDP has also formally announced its senatorial candidates across the three districts in Imo State following the conclusion of its primaries.
In Imo West, former House of Representatives member Jones Onyereri emerged as candidate, while industrialist Mike Duru Ejiogu secured the ticket for Imo North Senatorial District.
The party described its candidates as experienced and widely accepted figures whose emergence strengthens its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
