Former House of Representatives leader, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has dismissed allegations of drug use after a viral video sparked heated debate across social media platforms.

The Kano lawmaker came under scrutiny after a public appearance showed a noticeable blue coloration on his tongue, prompting widespread speculation online. Some social media users alleged that the former majority leader was under the influence of drugs or had taken pills during the event.

Responding to the controversy, Doguwa released a clarification video in Hausa, insisting the claims were false and politically motivated. He explained that the blue colour seen in the footage came from a sweet candy he had in his mouth at the time.

“It is the work of the devil and my political enemies that claimed I was taking drugs or pills; what I had in my mouth was sweet blue candy,” the lawmaker said.

Doguwa accused unnamed political opponents of deliberately spreading misleading narratives to tarnish his image. According to him, the controversy was being amplified to damage his reputation ahead of future political activities.

The viral clip quickly gained traction online, generating mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some accepted the explanation offered by the Kano politician, others continued to question the circumstances surrounding the video.

The former House leader is no stranger to public attention. Doguwa has previously made headlines for comments about his personal life, including publicly showcasing his four wives and stating that they had given birth to 27 children.

Despite his clarification, conversations around the video continue to trend on social media, reflecting the growing influence of online speculation in shaping public discourse around political figures in Nigeria.
