The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a pump-action rifle along with a stolen motorcycle in Owerri.

According to a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, operatives of the New Owerri Divisional Headquarters apprehended the suspects, Sohnani Bitrus, 25, and Burfa Selkap, 25, on April 3 following credible intelligence. Both suspects are natives of Langtang Local Government Area in Plateau State.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects robbed one Joel Andrew at his residence around 4:00 a.m., threatening him with a firearm and unlawfully seizing his red Daylong motorcycle, registration number NWA765QT. The motorcycle has since been recovered,” Okoye stated.

Further interrogation led police to the suspects’ hideout in Okwu-Uratta, Owerri North Local Government Area, where a pump-action rifle and a machete were recovered.

The suspects are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri to consolidate investigations and assist in identifying and apprehending their alleged accomplices.

DSP Okoye also reiterated the commitment of the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, to ensuring the security of residents during and after the Easter celebrations. Residents are urged to provide timely and credible information to the police via the nearest station or the emergency line.
