Imo State is celebrating 50 years since its creation, and the state’s transformation under Governor Hope Uzodinma is drawing widespread recognition. Senator Emma Anosike, Chairman of the Imo-Anambra River Basin Development, commended the governor on Tuesday in Abuja for restoring peace, driving economic growth, and delivering infrastructure projects that have benefited both urban and rural communities.

Anosike noted that Uzodinma’s leadership as Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, and Director-General of Renewed Hope Ambassadors has elevated the South East in Nigeria’s political landscape, creating access to strategic appointments and infrastructure development under President Bola Tinubu.

Recalling the security challenges inherited by Uzodinma, Anosike praised the launch of Operation Search and Flush, which has established 24-hour surveillance across the state, strengthened coordination among security agencies, and fostered engagement with traditional and religious leaders. Security operatives have also been equipped with modern vehicles, communication gadgets, and other tools to improve public safety.

Celebrating Uzodinma’s six years in office, Anosike said: “Governor Uzodinma has made a huge impact through urban transformation and grassroots empowerment. He has surpassed all previous governors in rapid development, fair appointments, and addressing youth unrest and insecurity.”

Under Uzodinma’s 3-R philosophy—Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Recovery, Imo State has seen major improvements in roads, healthcare, water, education, and social amenities. The governor has implemented Nigeria’s highest minimum wage (N110,000), increased pensions, improved healthcare worker salaries, and introduced innovative reforms including automated salary payments, free bus shuttles, health insurance for workers, official vehicles for senior civil servants, retraining programs, elevation of long-stagnant promotions, and the historic 13th-month salary.

Economic revitalization has been a hallmark of Uzodinma’s administration. Moribund industries, including the Ada-Palm project, mining sites, and agricultural ventures, have been revived, empowering thousands of youths and women through skill-acquisition programs and start-up grants. Infrastructure projects have also addressed flooding in Owerri, improved urban mobility, and boosted real estate values.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Debt Management Office, and World Bank show that Imo State now ranks as Nigeria’s fourth-largest economy, with a GDP of N7.658 trillion, making it a leading destination for business and investment. The state also boasts the highest concentration of hospitality businesses in Nigeria, West Africa’s largest palm oil plantation, the biggest natural gas reserves in the subregion, and rapidly appreciating real estate in Owerri.

Senator Anosike concluded that Uzodinma’s governance philosophy of “Shared Prosperity” has ensured inclusive growth, peace, and development across all communities, making Imo State a model of security, economic growth, and transformational leadership in Nigeria.
