Nollywood actress and filmmaker Infinity Ebere Ohakwe has raised alarm over what she describes as her unlawful and prolonged detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revealing she has been held for 21 days without charge, access to legal representation, or the ability to contact her support system.

In a handwritten plea obtained exclusively by OtownGist, and confirmed through a phone conversation with our correspondent, Ohakwe cried out from her detention cell at the EFCC Zonal Command in Benin City, Edo State, alleging a deliberate attempt to silence her and conceal the true motive behind her arrest.

“Nigerians please help me.
By Monday it will be 21 days inside EFCC cell.
I no thief. I no commit crime.
I no do fraud.
No boyfriend matter ooo.”

Ohakwe insists she was never invited or summoned by the EFCC prior to her arrest. She claims EFCC went straight to restrict her bank account, only to be arrested the moment she entered an Access Bank branch in Asaba, Delta State.

“EFCC no call me and I no come.
EFCC no invite me and I no come.
EFCC didn’t reach out at all ooo.”

She was in Asaba to attend the burial of her colleague Nnkechi Nweje in Onitsha, Anambra State, after traveling from Abuja. Ohakwe questioned the timing and location of her arrest.

“So why didn’t they arrest me at her burial in Onitsha, Anambra?
The reason is simple. They knew if they arrested me in Anambra in the presence of the whole Nollywood, the matter would escalate. This is wickedness and injustice to my person.”

According to her handwritten letter, she was pressured to modify her statement, allegedly forced to remove any mention of personal relationships or emotional entanglements — elements she believes are central to the real reason behind her arrest.

“They have forced me to change any statement by removing sex, relationship, and love just to justify their arrest.”

She hinted that the entire situation stems from a dispute involving a man she had been dating, which she believes played a direct role in the petition filed against her — a side of the story she says she cannot fully share until she is released.

“There’s another side of the story involving a guy I was dating. That’s something I must talk about when I’m out.”

Currently detained in what she describes as a “dirty and unhealthy cell,” Ohakwe says she has no access to funds to hire a lawyer or secure a surety. She believes she is being deliberately held to prevent her from speaking out.

“I also suspect they are keeping me here because I threatened them that I will tell the public all that is going on here that they are hiding from them.”

Infinity Ohakwe is the founder of Jewel Infinity Productions and known for her work on films such as Olaedo, Skolastica, When Love Hurts, and The Misdeed. Beyond acting and producing, she has been involved in youth-focused creative initiatives and film advocacy in the southeast region.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not responded to the allegations.

Ohakwe is now appealing to the Nigerian public, the Nollywood community, media houses, and human rights organizations to amplify her voice.

“Please help me speak for me, and I will tell the world a lot when I am out.”
