Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has defiantly responded to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) after being declared wanted for alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking. In a video posted on his official Instagram page on Monday, June 30, 2025, the US-based artist dared the agency to produce evidence against him and vowed never to honor their invitation.
The drama started days ago when NAPTIP announced that Speed Darlington was wanted after he appeared in a viral video bragging about sleeping with a 15-year-old girl. The video triggered widespread backlash, with Nigerians tagging the agency and demanding his immediate arrest. However, Speed has now fired back, claiming the entire saga is a social media witch hunt driven by clout-chasing officials.
Addressing NAPTIP directly, Speed said: “I’m not coming. You people are using my name for social media relevance. There is no complainant, no victim, and no evidence. All I did was speak irresponsibly for views. That’s not a crime.” He also threatened legal action against the agency for defamation of character.
Speed Darlington further argued that his viral confession was nothing but a stunt for attention. “Irresponsible talk is not a crime,” he said. “I didn’t call any names, I didn’t post any pictures. Now you want to use me to show Nigerians you’re working? Pay me N2.5 million appearance fee plus flight tickets if you want me to show up.”
The singer also accused NAPTIP of reacting under public pressure without conducting a proper investigation. He insisted that there is no formal complaint from any victim and challenged the agency to present verifiable proof before making public declarations about him.
NAPTIP is yet to release an official counter-response as at press time, but legal experts and human rights activists have already begun weighing in on the case. While some accuse Speed Darlington of playing with sensitive issues like rape and child abuse for internet clout, others argue that NAPTIP should follow due process and avoid trial by media.
The controversy continues to dominate social media conversations, with hashtags like #SpeedDarlington, #NAPTIPvsSpeedy, and #JusticeOrClout trending across X, Threads, and Instagram. Many Nigerians are now closely watching how the agency handles the case in the coming days.
