All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has strongly opposed suggestions that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should run for Lagos State governor in 2027. Addressing the issue in a Facebook post, Igbokwe criticized those pushing for Seyi’s candidacy, describing it as a needless distraction and an attempt to undermine the president.

Igbokwe, known for his blunt commentary, argued that leading Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve center, requires more than mere popularity. “Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governor? This is a needless distraction. To pull PBAT down is their target,” he wrote, referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He emphasized the weight of responsibility that comes with governing a state as complex as Lagos, stating, “Ruling Lagos is not the job of boys.”

The remarks have sparked debates across political and social circles, with some supporting Igbokwe’s stance while others argue that Seyi Tinubu, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, should not be dismissed outright.

While no official statement has been made by Seyi Tinubu or his camp, the speculation around his potential candidacy has fueled discussions about the future of Lagos State leadership and the influence of political dynasties.
