The House of Representatives has confirmed Olufemi Oluyede as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), following a thorough screening by the Joint Committee on Army and Defense. This confirmation was finalized on Wednesday, after a report was submitted by Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the Defense Committee.

Oluyede, who was nominated by President Bola Tinubu, steps into the role after the ill health and subsequent passing of former COAS, Taoreed Lagbaja. The new COAS is expected to lead Nigeria’s army with a renewed focus on tackling the country’s pressing security challenges.
