A student from Veritas University in Abuja, identified as Mr. Joshua Daniel, has tragically passed away.

Mr. Daniel, a 100 Level student in the Department of Computer Sciences, reportedly collapsed at the university’s gymnasium on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Despite efforts by the medical team, headed by the Chief Medical Director, to resuscitate him, Mr. Daniel could not be revived and was pronounced dead, according to a statement by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, released Wednesday evening.

The statement further revealed that the parents of the deceased have been notified and that the school has informed the police as per protocol.

The full statement from the Vice Chancellor reads: “On behalf of the Management, staff, and students of Veritas University, I regret to announce the sudden and tragic death of one of our students, Mr. Joshua Daniel, who passed away on April 30, 2024.

“The parents of the student have been informed, and the school has, as a matter of procedure, informed the police about the tragic incident.

“Our condolences go out to the parents of the late student, as well as the Head of Department and fellow students of the Department of Computer Sciences.

“We pray for the peaceful repose of our student’s soul and extend our deepest condolences to the parents, praying for them to have the strength to bear this loss.

“As a university, we will fully cooperate with all relevant authorities and the parents of the student to uncover the possible cause of our cherished student’s death.”
