For the second time in the last week, activists in Osun State on Thursday staged a peaceful protest on the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, decrying the current economic hardship among Nigerians.

Last week Thursday, activists in the state held a peaceful protest over the rising cost of living and vowed to sustain the agitations until the government stem the rising cost of living.

Led by the chairman of Osun Civil Societies Coalition, Mr Waheed Lawal, the protesters who began the march from Freedom Park, Osogbo, moved through MDS road to Olaiya Junction, where they addressed the people.

Armed security men closely followed the protesters as they moved through the streets singing songs to portray the high cost of living.

Speaking during the protest, Lawal called on President Bola Tinubu to return the subsidy on fuel to save Nigerians from further hardship.

He said, “No one believes things will turn out like this. We did not write a letter inviting Bola Tinubu to become our president.

“He was the one who said it was his time ‘Emilokan’ and chose to be the president. Now that he has become the president, nothing is working under him.

“Our coming out today is just to sound a warning that we will soon come out in full to occupy the street and that protest will be massive.

“The Organised Labour in Osun begged us to shelve today’s protest since they are planning one for next week and we are under the union, but we told them we can’t shelve it, but we can only make it minimal.

“We are calling on President Tinubu to return the subsidy on fuel. The hardship is too much. We can no longer eat good food. We are not going to take it lightly with the government unless they do the needful.”
