As the nation marks Workers Day, Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, says he believes that Labour remains the backbone of productivity.

Obi’s assertion is contained in a post via his verified Twitter handle on Monday, following his attendance at the May Day celebration at Eagle square in Abuja.

The former Anambra State governor said he used the opportunity to urge every hardworking Nigerian to remain steadfast in the course of building a better and New Nigeria.

Obi said that the country cannot talk about moving from consumption to production without caring about the welfare of workers.

He said, “Today, I attended the Solidarity Rally of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja. I believe that Labour remains the backbone of productivity.

“We cannot talk about moving from consumption to production without caring about the welfare and well-being of the greatest tool of that revolution, which is human labour.

“I thank the leadership of the Nigerian Labour (NLC and TUC) for their invitation and commend them for the theme of this year’s Workers Day (“Workers Rights and Socio-Economic Justice”) which is quite topical and very apt for today’s Nigeria.
