The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has been told to declare the results of the Plateau Central Senatorial district election held last Saturday without further delay.

The party claimed that its candidate, Diket Plang won with a comfortable margin of over 4,000 votes, saying that the electoral body should respect the will of the people.

The APC in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang on Saturday, expressed disappointment over INEC’s hesitation in releasing the result after a week.

The statement claimed that there was a recount of votes cast amid controversy, yet the APC was in the commanding lead even as the figures tallied with that of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) results.

The APC accused the rival Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of desperation which made its supporters to forcefully occupy the INEC premises at Pankshin and the headquarters in Jos for the past week to hoodwink the electoral umpire into announcing its candidate as the winner of the Plateau Central Senatorial District election.

As a result of this untoward act, the APC said there is tension in Jos that may lead to the breakdown of law and order at any time.

The party said: “We call for the beefing up of security around INEC facilities in the affected areas in the prelude to the immediate announcement of the results as collated by INEC.

“The APC as a law-abiding party would not want to join forces with the PDP which is presently demonstrating at the Rantya Road headquarters of INEC which amounts to blackmail and irresponsibility of the highest order.”
