The acting Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, Mrs Christy Uba, on Tuesday charged corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities of self-employment through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development to enhance their socio-economic growth and welfare.
She said white-collar jobs were no longer readily available.
Uba made the call in a message she sent to the swearing-in of the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members across the country.
In Ekiti State, she was represented by the state coordinator, Mrs Mary Chikezie.
She said, “I will like to remind you that white-collar jobs are not readily available. Therefore, I encourage you to avail yourselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
“You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas, and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the orientation camp. On our part, management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme.”
The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice John Adeyeye, represented by Justice Olalekan Olatawura, administered oaths to the over 1,100 corps members deployed to the state at the event.
Gombe State
In Gombe State, the swearing-in took place at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Amada Akko Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 741 corps members were administered the oath of allegiance by the state’s acting Chief Judge, Justice Halima Mohammed, who was represented by Justice Fatima Musa.
The corps members include 404 males and 337 females.
Benue State
No fewer than 1,200 corps members posted to Benue State also took their oath of allegiance on Tuesday.
The ceremony took place at the orientation camp located in Annune, the headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the state Chief Judge who was represented by Justice Morris Ikpambese.
The state coordinator, who represented Uba, called on stakeholders to support the NYSC Trust Fund and the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers.
