Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Section of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested the gang that murdered two police officers attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, at Tranquility hotel, Nung Oku, Ibesikpo Local Government Area of the State.

Parading the suspects at the command headquarters, Ikot-Akpanabia Uyo, the State capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi said the gang had confessed to be notorious for maiming and robbing supermarkets and snatching of vehicles in Uyo.

The suspects arrested include: Aniekeme John Akwa ‘m’ of Afaha Ikot Obion NKan village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Aniebiet Monday Okon ‘m’ of Afaha Udo-Uyo village, also in Ibesikpo LGA.

The Commissioner explained that following a distress call by one Ann Sampson Ogbe ‘f’ that three armed men on board a Toyota Rav 4 invaded her supermarket and robbed her at gunpoint the sum of N130, 000, recharge cards and phone, his men swung into action and arrested the suspects through discreet investigation.

The statement read in parts, “On 11th July, 2022 at about 11:00am, one Ann Sampson Ogbe ‘f’ of No. 370 Nwaniba Road, Uyo reported through a distress call to Control Room that on same date at about 10:30am, three armed hoodlums on board a Toyota Rav 4 car with Reg. No. KTU 343 EU invaded her supermarket, ‘God’s Mercy Supermarket’ and robbed her at gunpoint, collecting cash sum of N130, 000.00, recharge cards and phone.

“Men of the Anti-Robbery Section of the Command in a discreet investigation, arrested one Aniekeme John Akwa ‘m’ of Afaha Ikot Obion NKan village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Aniebiet Monday Okon ‘m’ of Afaha Udo-Uyo village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA and recovered the Toyota Rav 4 car, two locally made pistols, army uniform, cartridges and charms.

“Suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to have been responsible for the killing of two Policemen from CTU at Tranquility Hotel, Nung Oku, Ibesikpo and the serial armed robbery at Supermarkets in Uyo metropolis and snatching of vehicles.”

The Commissioner, who warned crime perpetrators to steer clear of Akwa Ibom State, attributed the success recorded so far to the cooperation of the people and synergy with sister security agencies.

“It is worthy to note that this feat has not been achieved alone but with the robust cooperation the command has enjoyed from the Government, sister security agencies whom I took time to visit and synergized with on my arrival, the traditional institution and other non-state actors, and above all, the good people of the State who have been forthcoming with genuine and timely information. I appreciate all of you,” the statement noted
