The Imo state government has reiterated its commitment to deal decisively with oil bunkers in the state and those who patronize their illegal business.


This is coming barely few days after the minister  for Petroleum(state), His Excellency Timipre Sylva came to  Imo state on a working visit.


It was gathered that incidences of bunkering took a dangerous dimension recently,when locals of oil bearing communities were burnt in their numbers while scooping crude oil from  pipelines leading to gas explosion.

Speaking with a senior staff of   safety department of Federal Ministry of Petroleum who doesn’t want his name in print, he hinted that both State Federal Governments are determined to deal with every fuel station that encourages oil theft,adding that already, some fuel stations at Onitsha , Port Harcourt roads have been marked for sanction.

When asked to disclose names of the fuel stations involved, he said in due time, they will be made public for Imo people to see and necessary sanctions melted out to the., which may even include outright closure of such fuel stations.


He regretted that the criminal elements who are into this illicit  business fail to realize that many have died as a result of adulterated products.According to him, aside the havoc such fake products cause at home, they damage vehicles and their automobile equipment.
