An organisation, Enugu West Patriotic League, has commended the people of Enugu West Senatorial District of Enugu State for joining hands with it to effectively end political dictatorship in the zone.

The group made the commendation during its meeting on Monday in Enugu where it reviewed its activities since inception and in the run-up to political parties’ primaries in the state.

Congratulating all the people that emerged as candidates for various elective positions in the forthcoming general election in the zone, the group pledged its support for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Mbah.

While praising the members for their resilience against all odds, the league vowed to sustain the tempo and to ensure that henceforth, no single individual would lord over the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone, especially as it concerned elective and appointive political positions in the state.

The National President, National Secretary, and the National Publicity Secretary; Chief Paul Anikwe, Prof. Uche Okolo, and Chief Uche Obute, and others, who respectively addressed the members after reviewing their journey so far, promised better days for the people of the zone.

Anikwe, who hailed stakeholders and the people of Enugu State for standing on the zoning of the governorship seat in the state, expressed optimism that the PDP candidate, when elected would move the state forward having come from a private sector.

“We are a mass movement with the mandate of our people to liberate them from the shackles of one-man political dictatorship.

Before this time, Enugu West senatorial district was under the grip of a few individuals who became billionaires from being the leaders of the zone.

“Such individuals controlled political positions in the zone to the extent that they determined who occupied any political positions from the zone.

“Such individuals who had held down the zone from political growth ensured that those who worked with them in the past, cannot boast of any benefits.

“When we discovered that their ideologies were fake, we came together to cut their excesses.

“How can you claim overall leadership, yet none of your followers is in the House of Assembly or elected council chairman?”, Chief Anikwe queried.

On his part, Chief Obute described the PDP governorship candidate as a square peg in a square hole.

Enugu West Patriotic League comprises the critical stakeholders from the five Local Government Areas that make up Enugu West Senatorial District (Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji-River, and Udi) and the leadership represents a mass movement of people from the 81 wards in the zone.
