Socio-cultural body of Ilorin Emirate, Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, has warned constituted authorities to curtail the invasion of Muslim homes, markets and mosques within and across Ilorin by adherents of traditional religion.

The National President of the union, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, who stated this said: ” timely heeding of the warning was important to prevent the needless eruption of religious crisis in the city of Ilorin which may threaten the harmonious nature of the state.”

Reacting to the invasion of the ancient city by adherents of traditional religion, he cautioned them to desist from disrespecting and treating the Islamic religion’s sanctity of the people of the community by keeping away from their homes and mosques which serve as their worship places.

He said the Union “is heavily disturbed by the consistent complaints coming to it from concerned members of the Community on the repeatedly infuriating manners idol worshippers parade residences, markets and mosques across Ilorin on the pretense of offering unsolicited prayers and alms begging.”

The president said the union appreciated the constitutional liberty guaranteed by every citizen to practice the faith of his or her choice, but insisted that such liberty is not without limitation as it would be wrong of anyone to trespass the religious sensibilities of others on the pretense of freedom of worship.

“The religious and cultural boundaries of every individual and Community ought to be outlined and respected by others in the Interest of peace,” the union further stated.
