Former Manchester City and Leeds United right-back Danny Mills has told Manchester United defender, Phil Jones to get out of Old Trafford and find playing time somewhere else.

Mills says he finds it “bizarre” and “incredible” that Jones is still a Manchester United player.

The 29-year-old was sidelined for almost two years but returned to the starting XI in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Wolves last Monday.

Jones got the opportunity following a slight injury to Harry Maguire and Covid-19 cases at the club and he put a strong performance.

“To be honest I have no idea how he’s still at the football club,” he told Football Insider.

“I know he’s had his injury problems but surely he would want to be getting away and playing.

“I just find it bizarre and incredible that he’s still there and hasn’t wanted to leave and go and play, even if that’s a loan deal somewhere.

“He clearly was once a fabulous player but we don’t know if he’s still a fabulous player because he hasn’t played much.

“He needs to play football, he’s not particularly old. Get out and play some football.”

The England international played for Blackburn Rovers at both youth and senior levels before moving to Manchester United.

Although primarily a centre-back, Jones can also play as a right-back or defensive midfielder.

He will hope to be considered by manager Ralf Rangnick when the former Premier League champions meet Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Monday evening.
