The Niger State Governor, Alh Abubakar Sani Bello, has presented a budget estimate of N198, 245,654,759.75 for the 2022 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.

The budget represents an increase of 12.75 percent or N44, 830,032,983.28 compared to the original 2021 budget of N153, 412,621,776.47.

Presenting the budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidated Development”, on the floor of the House, the Governor said the budget will strive to consolidate on the gains of that of 2021 for sustainable and development of the state.

He explained that the Recurrent Expenditure proposal is pegged at N74, 157,965,942.06 representing 37.41 percent an increase of 1.07 percent (N1, 574,764,111.18) compared to the 2021 Original Budget of N72, 583,201,830.88

The Governor also said the sum of N124, 087,688,817.69 is proposed for the Capital Expenditure representing 62.59 percent of the total budget.

“It also represents an increase of N43, 258,268,872.10 or 21.11% above the estimated capital expenditure of N80, 829,419,945.59 of 2021 Original Budget Estimates,” he said.

He further explained that the budget is aimed at the amelioration of insecurity, completion of on-going projects that attained appreciable level and have a direct impact on the welfare of the people, and prudent management of available resources.

Others include diversification of internal revenue sources and improvement of collection machinery, increase investment in the productive capacity of the State economy particularly agriculture, infrastructure, education, health, transportation; and care for the Vulnerable.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Abdul Bawa Wuse expressed optimism with the wide gap between the expenditure and Capital Receipts, saying, “it will bring hope to the State.”

He stated that the House is aware of the challenges confronting the state, especially with the dwindle in oil prices, the COVID-19 and reduced IGR that have made the execution of government programmes difficult.

The Speaker then assured the Governor of the readiness of the Legislature to work with the Executive arm for the progress of the state.
